Mead Matters
Why Incorporate?
Incorporation gives a community the power to self-govern and make decisions that directly affect its residents. Here in Mead, we believe it's time we take the reins and drive our future.

Benefits of Incorporation
-
Local Control
Incorporation allows us to make decisions at a local level. This means we can prioritize our community's specific needs and values, and react quickly to the issues that matter most to us. -
Financial Benefits
As an incorporated city, we can directly benefit from our tax dollars. This allows us to fund necessary infrastructure improvements and services in our community. -
Community Identity
Incorporation helps to preserve and enhance our community identity. It allows us to maintain the unique character and charm and makes Mead special.

Incorporation Process
Here's a brief outline of the steps we need to take to achieve incorporation:
-
Petition: A petition to incorporate needs to be signed by at least 10% of the registered voters in the area.
-
Feasibility Study: A study is done to determine if the area has the financial means to support itself as a city.
-
Approval: The proposal must be approved by the county and then put to a vote. If a majority of residents vote in favor of incorporation, the process moves forward.
-
Election of Officials: Once approved, local officials are elected, and the new city begins its operation.
